Animation showing schematically the phenomenon of magnetostriction - changing magnetisation changes the physical dimensions of material. As one dimension expands due to a changing magnetic field, the other one contracts in order to preserve the volume. The red-blue elements show the magnetic domains, grey arrow - direction and value of external magnetic field.
