This image describes how different map projections can create illusions. The image to the left is an orthographic projection of the northern Atlantic Ocean and the image to the right is a Robinson projection of the same area. The red line on both images is an air route between Stockholm and New York. The two lines are placed on the same coordinates but on the orthographic projection the line is straight and on the Robinson projection the line is bent.
